Deoria Tal is one of the most popular trek destinations of Uttarakhand. This is the starting point for the 4 day trek to Chandrashila and Tunganath temple. However, a 1 day trek to Deoria Tal from the starting point of Sari village can also be a very good idea.
One can stay in Ukhimath for embarking on a 1 day trek of Deoria Tal. The Garwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) guest house can be a good option. The other option could be staying in the starting point of the Deoria Tal trek – Saari village.
Day trek to Deoria Tal
The best idea would be to start from Saari village very early in the morning. This way you will have more time at the top to enjoy the view of the peaks. Chaukhamba Peak is one of the main sights to enjoy here.
Saari Village to Omkar Ratneshwar Mahadev Mandir
The phase 1 of the Deoria Tal trek is the hike from Saari village to Omkar Ratneshwar Mahadev mandir. The temple is almost half way into the trek. From here, a nice view of the surrounding areas, the lush greenery around, and the farm lands of terrace farming can be seen.

Phase 2 of the trek is the more difficult part. As the altitude increases, so does the incline. The last few hundred meters seem never-ending. Finally, you reach the top of the mountain. You immediately get greeted by a lake with crystal clear water – the Deoria Tal. The tranquil lake (locally known as Tal) is surrounded by trees on the right side. Towards the left is the descent. One can see the valley on that side.
The best view is arguably towards the north, where the Chaukhamba peak can be seen. If viewed from a proper angle, the reflection of the Chaukhamba can be seen in the lake.
The grounds near the lake are perfect for camping. Trekkers usually camp here for the night before heading towards Tunganath.
